I have the SA Live Tokyo '86. SSmith does a crack job on much of it, but this live version of "Trains" doesn't do Mr. Erskine's groove [on the original] justice [off "Magnetic"]...altho the musicianship on the live version is high, it comes off sounding like a flippant, passing, "tip of the hat" to the original, & ends up sounding like a disengaged jam session...4 1 thing, it's too fast/uppity/herky-jerky & loses the groove compared to the studio vrsn...PE & Vic's groove on the orig is PHAT... & Chuck Loeb's rhythm gtr helps make the tune...& MBrecker's sax solo is the consumate in building tension & release/storytelling...ever wonder what crying with passion sounds like thru a sax? Check it out....
